Privatisation Empty Privatisation

There is a whisper that the DSA will be disbanded, with road safety and testing being solely under the umbrella of the DFT. Although it has been mentioned many times before, financially it would be more productive for the UK, if we privatise practical tests. The DSA caries a heavy burden of long term sick leave, financially damaging for us all, this would ease this, particularly examiner sick leave.

Rosemary Thew, when questioned, said there were no current plans, yet we know, unless a positive decision has been made it will not be announced. With many at the top of the tree, reaching retirement or being very close, is this the time for a total reformation?

Mark Magee is head of modernising driver and rider training, this will give plenty of opportunity for that role to be developed and for the proposals to be enforced more efficiently. As the tax payer, the bill will be lighter. It also means the the driver training industry as we know it will become more formalised and academic, and there will be no need for associations, as a private body will have to have an overseeing body.

Privatisation Empty Re: Privatisation

With Trevor Wedge now retiring, which was hardly a surprise, and Mr Penning answering questions on the future of the driver training industry, soon, is there a future as a driving instructor, as we know it? Or are the academic qualifications and compulsory cpd requirements arriving all on the same day?
